Dangerous Insect Found in Bag of Rice

Deadly insect found in a bag of rice at the airport in Los Angeles. Insects were found by U.S. Customs officer was identified as a beetle species khapra.

As reported by the Telegraph, Thursday (6 / 1), the customs officer said he found the adult beetle and its larvae live in the bag of rice. Indian rice is rice that is sent from Saudi Arabia last week. A spokesman for border protection and U.S. Costums Jaime Ruiz said Khapra insect species are insects most harmful to plants and also the type of the most difficult to eradicate because of its ability to survive even without food for months. Parties to the airport finally decided to burn the package is to prevent transmission.

According to some sources, khapra beetles that have a Latin name ”trogoderma granium evert”  include the most destructive pests in the places of storage or warehousing of agricultural products, especially whole grains or cereals. These types of pests including class exotic plant peststhat have the potential to cause severe damage to destroy the agricultural products, especially for grain stored in warehouses.
